Anna Webber

Anna Webber, a young composer, saxophonist and flutist has been the focus of a lot attention recently. Jason Moran, a jazz pianist who is highly sought-after, said that Anna Webber was one of those rare musicians who can seamlessly combine intellectual curiosity and pure emotion. She always creates a new sound every time we play together. The New York Times called her sounds “out of tension between contemporary classical music, modern jazz”. Webber was also awarded the 2014 Charlie Parker Jazz Composition Prize by BMI (Broadcast Music Inc.). Webber, a Canadian citizen who has lived in New York since 2008, is highly praised and recognized. As anyone who has listened to her latest CD on the PIROUET label, based in Munich, will instantly recognize, the adulation wasn’t just spontaneous. The album, “Refraction”, was recorded with seven young European musicians. The brilliantly performed pieces are infused with transparent sounds, and there are many surprises at every turn. Although the compositions are complex at times they shine with jazz-inspired spontaneity. This is scintillating cinematic music for people who enjoy the thrill of discovery. from www.herzogpromotion.com
