Antibalas, a New York-based band, was founded in 1998 by members of King Chango, Soul Providers and the Daktaris. Antibalas were influenced by American soul and Nigerian Afrobeat. They started performing at New York clubs, hosting Africalia. This gave them the chance to showcase their unique style, which is a mixture of cultures. The live album, Live In New York!, was recorded by Liberation Afrobeat. Summer 1999 was released. Liberation Afro Beat Vol. 1 was released in 2001. In 2004, the group recorded Who Is This America? on the Rope-a-Dope record label. Security on Anti Records followed in 2007. Antibalas released a self-titled album after extensive touring and collaborations in studio and live by its members.
