The trio of Paal Nilssen Love (drums) u0026 Johan Berthling(double bass) from Scandinavia joined forces with Akira Sakata (clarinet/saxophone) at the Molde Jazz Festival, Norway in 2013. Named after the 1977 collaboration album by Yosuke Yamashita and Dairakudakan, the album Sakata was a key part of and which still stands as an innovative and bold musical statement 40 years later. And this piece of history gives us a clue to where the trio of Nilssen-Love, Berthling and Sakata is aiming for, not by looking back and rethreading what has been done before, but adopting its attitude of kicking the often stale sax/drums/bass-format forward with such force that it feels completely fresh. Arashi, which was formed in 2013, has been a stable group that has toured extensively in Europe and Japan. PNL Records is happy to release “Jikan”, the third album of the trio.
