Ari Ambrose

Ari Ambrose, tenor saxophonist/composer, was raised in Washington DC’s Maryland suburbs. Stanley Turrentine, a young man who was gifted with saxophone and composition skills, exclaimed to an audience that “this kid can outplay most people with one hand tied behind their back!” Ambrose studied at the Manhattan School of Music with Dick Oatts. Ambrose performed in New York City with Wynton Marsalis, Wynton Marston, Ryan Kisor and Peter Erskine. He also toured the globe with Steely Dan between 1996 and 2000. Ambrose has released eight albums for Steeplechase under his own name to wide acclaim. Since November 2005, he has been performing with Jane Monheit and is featured on Surrender, her latest Concord release. From www.smallslive.com
