Ark Ovrutski

Ark began his career in Kiev, Ukraine. He graduated from Kiev’s music college in 1991 and then moved to Moscow, where he received his Russian Academy of Music degree in 1992. Ark moved to Poland in the mid-1990s. He was well-respected for his performances with multiple groups. Ark has recorded and performed with Piotr Namyslowski (Piotr Wojtasik), Joachim Mencel (Adam Pieronczyk), Kazimerz Jonkisz) since then. Ark released “New Age” in 2002 as an independent recording. It was his debut solo album. The recording featured performances by local musicians from Moscow performing original compositions. He graduated from Berklee Summer Program, Italy, in 2003, and the 2005 Advanced Performance Program, NYC, at The Drummers Collective. Ark has enjoyed a full-time career as a free-lance musician, working with many great jazz musicians, including Curtis Fuller (Curtis Fuller), Mark Soskin (Piotr Wojtasik), Steve Williams, Javon Jackson and Steve Slagle. In 2002, Ark released “New Age”, his debut solo album. Ark is a long-standing member of the Russia, Ukraine, and NYC music communities. His most recent venture, “Sounds of Brazil”, was recorded by Ark Ovrutski Band (May 2010). It featured Grammy drummer Duduka Da Fonseca and pianist Helio Alves, as well as two outstanding flute and sax players, Craig Handy and Jorge Continetino. The band performs a unique mix of brazilian grooves, original melodies, and contemporary arrangements. Ark received his Masters in Jazz Performance from Rutgers University, NJ in May 2010.
