Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Ben was raised in Portland, Oregon. His performances with Wynton Marsalis and Harry Connick Jr. have earned him a huge following. He formed a duo with Harry Connick Jr. early in his career and recorded over a dozen albums. He was the musical director for numerous international tours during his five years at Connick. The Wynton Marsalis Septet then recruited him and he stayed with them until their dissolution. Ben was also an integral part Diana Krall’s touring group and recorded many of her albums, including “When I look in Your Eyes”, which won the Grammy Award. Ben was a member The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO) and has performed with Joe Henderson. Doc Cheatham, Jon Hendricks. Harry “Sweets” Edison, Billy Higgins, and others. Branford Marsalis and James Moody, Eric Reed and Carl Allen are some of the other artists with whom he has recorded. Ben’s past recordings include “13 Sketches”, (1996), and “Bagdad Theater,” (1997). They were all released on Mons Records. He also has the critically-acclaimed “Murray’s Cadillac”, (2000), on Amosaya Music, and “My Kinda Beautiful,” (2004) on Planet Arts Records.
