Blacks’ Myths, a Washington, DC duo, is comprised of Luke Stewart (bass) and Warren G. “Trae” Crudup III (drums). Blacks’ Myths II, the group’s latest album, contains thirteen tracks recorded during a marathon recording session that took place in the summer 2019. Stewart and Crudup are two of DC’s most versatile and active musicians. They create symbiotic rhythmic pieces through their ability to lock into something both hypnotic yet free. Their collaboration is changing the rhythm section by breaking down its tropes, injecting vibrancy and freedom as well as dismantling them. Blacks’ Myths (Atlantic Rhythms 2018, 2018) was the group’s debut album. It created a space for atmosphere and eruption, creating hypnotic rhythmic structures as well as exploratory soundscapes.
