Jazz is an art form that’s constantly evolving. Some argue that the music of the past masters is the best representation of jazz’s golden age. Others disagree and point out that there are many artists today with new voices and different points of view. They are pushing forward with their creative visions of where jazz is heading. These new stars are rooted in tradition but allow themselves to express their musical experience. Blue Note All-Stars, an iconic group of originals that has explored these new horizons in 2014, is the most prominent. The band was formed to commemorate the 75th anniversary Blue Note Records, where future jazz giants such as Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock made their first recordings. Blue Note’s latest edition features contemporary jazz legends Robert Glasper on keyboards and Ambrose Akinmusire playing trumpet. Marcus Strickland plays tenor saxophone. Lionel Loueke plays guitar. Derrick Hodge plays bass. Kendrick Scott plays drums. From www.bluenote.com
