The Bluff City Backsliders were formed in 1999 by a group of Memphis blues musicians who had been leaning towards early American music. The band began playing live in 2001 after learning many classic bluegrass, country, jug band, and jazz tunes. The band quickly gained a reputation for performing music that had almost disappeared over the years and quickly grew their audience. They recorded their debut CD after several high-profile concerts and awards. Yellow Dog Records released the self-titled CD in June 2002. It was followed by a tour through the Southern United States.
