Bob Holz

Composer/drummer/producer. An alumni of Berklee School of Music, Bob majored in performance and composition with teachers Gary Chaffee and Michael Gibbs. He went on to study privately with Dave Weckl and Billy Cobham. He also found a mentor in drummer Wilby Fletcher Jr.( McCoy Tyner). Fletcher shared his wealth of knowledge and experience with Holz over a 15 year time span up until his untimely death in 2010. Holz has composed and recorded numerous live and studio recordings, movie sound tracks and theatrical productions. Perhaps his most well know movie sound track was for the major motion picture entitled Show Your Love directed by Edward J. Bruno for VCA films. Holz has also toured extensively as a band leader (The Bob Holz Band). Holz played at the 1999 Woodstock Music Festival in New York. He also performed along with Dr. John at a coveted awards ceremony at the 2006 M&T Jazz Festival in Syracuse, NY. In 2010 he traveled to Memphis to participate and perform as a finalist in the W.C. Handy Blues Awards. Bob has shared the stage with Robben Ford, Les McCann, David Fat Head Newman, Cornell Dupree, James Cotton, Peter Tosh, The Outlaws, Mountain, Noel Redding, Foghat, Molly Hatchet, Head East, Savoy Brown, Wolfman Jack, The Winters Brothers, Blackfoot, Shemika Copeland, Johnny Winter, Eddie Money, Maria Muldaur, Dr. John, The Grass Roots, Three Dog Night, Blue Oyster Cult, Elvin Bishop, Duke Robillard, Renee Austin, Marcia Ball, Sue Foley, Otis Rush, Pinetop Perkins, Commander Cody, Point Blank, Grinderswitch, Stillwater, Bobby Kimball of Toto, Orleans, Brian Howe of Bad Company and George Clinton/ Parliament Funk. As of 2017 Holz has 5 CDs released as a leader. Holz has formed a long standing musical partnership with 3 time Grammy nominee Frank Stepanek who has been the guitarist for reggae superstars, Black Uhuru for 30 years. Stepanek recorded and produced Bob’s first three albums. Holz released his third CD entitled Split Decision on August 23, 2014. The CD was nominated for Best Jazz category in the 2014 SAMMY Awards in New York. Joining Bob on that release was Simon Phillips/ Protocol member and former Dave Weckl Band keyboardist Steve Weingart. Other guests included saxophonist Paulie Cerra (Joe Bonamassa, Larry Carlton) and keyboardist Billy Steinway (Annie Lennox, Stevie Wonder, Jazz Crusaders). In 2017 Bob is releasing his 5th album entitled Visions and Friends which features Larry Coryell,Randy Brecker,Ralphe Armstrong,Alex Machacek and Billy Steinway.The album is being released on MVD Audio and Rob Stathis is the Executive Producer.
