Bob Mintzer

Bob Mintzer is a versatile soloist, influenced by Michael Brecker’s tenor. He has played with Buddy Rich (1974), Buddy Rich (1974), Buddy Rich (1975), and the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra (1977). Mintzer was also a leader of his own bands, starting in 1978. He worked with Louie Bellson and Bob Moses as well as the American Saxophone Quartet. Since the mid-’80s, Mintzer has been a guest with many philharmonic orchestras. He also led a fine New York big band. Mintzer was a member since 1991 of the Yellowjackets (where his bass clarinet is a major contributor to the group’s color), and recorded for DMP for over a decade. He then moved to TVT for the 1998 Quality Time. In fall 2000, Homage To Count Basie was released. Live at MCG featured Kurt Elling as vocalist and Old School New Lessons was an album benefiting the Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild, Pittsburgh, PA in 2006. Allmusic
