Bob Scobey

Bob Scobey was a popular trumpeter in Dixieland during his prime years. After a series of low-profile roles in dance bands during the 1930s Scobey met Lu Watters in 1938. Scobey was a member Watter’s Yerba Buena Jazz Band, San Francisco from 1940-1949. He spent most of 1942-1946 in the military. This made him one of the most important members of the Dixieland revival. He left San Francisco in 1949 to start his Frisco Jazz Band. His recordings featured Clancy Hayes and Lizzie Miles. Scobey founded his Club Bourbon Street in Chicago in 1959. He died four years later from cancer at 46. Many of Bob Scobey’s Good Time Jazz dates were reissued on CD. They still contain joyful and stirring music. Allmsuic
