Bob Wilber And The Bechet Legacy

Bob Wilber founded the Bechet Legacy in 1980 as a tribute to Sidney Bechet, his former teacher. Wilber used to sound like Bechet, clarinet and soprano, but has since developed his own sound. He heads a fine sextet that also includes guitarist Chris Flory and Phil Flanigan, as well as drummer Chuck Riggs. They play a selection of tunes related to Bechet. Pug Horton sings three songs in the style of Eva Taylor. The final two numbers, “Kansas City Man” (Kensas City Man”), see Wilber and Zottola interacted with fire in a small quartet with Flory or Flanigan. Allmusic
