Bobby Selvaggio

Bobby Selvaggio is a leading alto saxophone voice on the jazz scene today. According to pianist Kenny Werner “Bobby’s one of the most talented players out there.” Joe Lovano, a legendary saxophonist, praises Bobby saying that he is “one of the few young players on the scene today that captures your attention with his strong presence and focus on sound.” Bobby was born in Cleveland and earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Performance at Kent State University. Bobby eventually moved to New York City, where he earned his Masters in Jazz Performance at the Manhattan School of Music. Bobby Watson, Dick Oatts and Maria Schneider were his teachers while he was in New York. Bobby moved back to Cleveland after four years of living in New York City, where he gigged at venues like Birdland, Smalls and the Vanguard. Bobby has been a tireless advocate for jazz education and has served as the Director of Jazz Studies at Kent State University. Bobby is expanding his discography, in addition to his work as a jazz educator. Short Stories (Origin Records 2014), featuring Aaron Goldberg as the pianist, is his most recent recording. It follows Way Of Being, Grass Roots Movement, Arabesque Records 2011, and Modern Times (Arabesque Records 2009). Modern Times featured Kenny Werner as pianist and Sean Jones as trumpeter. Bobby’s Unspoken Dialog (Playscape Recordings 2007) also featured Kenny Werner as well as Jamey Haddad and Ben Street on drums and Paul Tynan as trumpet players. Bobby is an alto saxophonist, as well as a composer, arranger and jazz clinician. from www.bobbyselvaggio.com
