Boris Schmidt was born 1983 in Luxembourg and started playing music when he was 7. He began his musical journey with the saxophone and soon moved on to harmony and piano. He began his studies in jazz saxophone in Rossignol, Belgium, in 1998. His first teachers were Alexandre Plumacker, Nicolas Dory and Jacques Pirotton. He had been playing electric bass since 1999 but only in 2002 did he learn double-bass. Marc Demuth taught him this instrument. Hein van der Geyn was an avid player of electric bass since 1999. He then began to learn double-bass from Marc Demuth at the Royal Conservatory of Den Haag. He studied with Frans van den Hoeven, Hein van de Geyn and Uli Glaszmann and received his bachelor of music degree in 2007. While he is primarily a jazz musician in Be-Ne–Lux, he also explores other musical areas like early music with “l’Arpeggiata”, with whom he has been touring the most prestigious venues such as Walt Disney Concert Hall (Los Angeles), Wigmore Hall(London) and Carnegie Hall (New York). For more than ten years. He occasionally teaches jazz workshops here in Belgium.
