Braaxtaal

Braaxtaal’s music is some of the most exciting in the Netherlands. The lyrics were written by Jaap Blonk (vocalist and sound poet), using fragments from existing texts, including catalogues and advertisements. In 2000, the trio went one step further when Dworr Buun contained lyrics written in a fantasy language by Blonk. Braaxtaal was formed in 1987 and used as its lyrics the words of Dutch poet Lucebert. However, the group has remained centered on Blonk’s writing since 1990. Rob Daenen, a synthesizer player, was previously associated with Weather Report-influenced groups, while Theo Bodewes, percussionist and drummer, was involved with Amsterdam’s free wave/punk scene of the 1980s.
