Bruce Barth

b. Bruce David Barth, 7 September 1958, Pasadena, California, USA. Barth was raised in New York and began studying piano at the age of five. He studied privately with Norman Simmons and Jackie Byard at the New England Conservatory of Music, where he was part of a big band that featured George Russell and Jackie Byard. Barth was a leader of his small group before he joined the Berklee College Of Music around the mid-80s. He had several early professional engagements in the late 80s/early 90s with Nat Adderley. They visited Japan, Vincent Herring and Stanley Turrentine. Barth is a skilled post- and bop pianist, with a delicate touch. He also composes music and has been active in education, teaching at Long Island University, Brooklyn, New York City. Allmusic
