Brussels Jazz Orchestra (BJO), is not a jazz orchestra that follows established standards. It is a creative, innovative and passionate orchestra that strives for the highest possible level. It is jazz with an orchestral sound and a classic strength, in which every musician is also a great soloist. It’s an “orchestrated passion” for jazz that drives BJO to create great music. The project determines who will play with BJO. BJO also produces its own productions and collaborates with musicians from around the globe. The Flemish Government has been subsidizing the Brussels Jazz Orchestra since 1999. The Brussels Jazz Orchestra is an orchestra in residence at Flagey, Brussels and a member of the European Music Circle. BJO worked with Bert Joris (US), deFilharmonie. Tutu Puoane. Brussels Philharmonic, David Linx. ‘t Arsenaal, and Richard Galliano on its own productions. BJO performed with Maria Schneider, Kenny Werner, Dave Liebman (US), Dave Douglas(US), Gianluigi Trvesi (IT), McCoy Tyner US), Maria Joao Portugal (Portugal), Kenny Wheeler GB (US), Lee Konitz US), Toots Thielemans and other artists. International acclaim for BJO’s works includes: – South African Music Award 2011 in the category “Best Traditional Jazz Album”, – Zilveren Griffel 2011 (NL) for audiobook, “Vliegen tot de hemel”. BJO wrote and performed the original score. 2011-2012 Golden Globe and BAFTA, Cesar, Academy Award (Oscar), for co-performing The Artist’s soundtrack.
