Burkina Electric

Burkina Electric, a pioneering electronic music group from Burkina Faso’s deep interior, was hailed by The New York Times as “an irresistible blend of West African music u0026 electronica.” It is based in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso’s capital), but it is also an international band with members who live in New York, U.S.A., Dusseldorf, Germany and Ouaga. Burkina Electric’s music blends the traditional rhythms and culture of Burkina Faso, with modern electronic dance culture. It is a pioneer in electronic world music. They are a diverse group of talented musicians and dancers who all contribute to the creative process. Burkina Electric is not content with reusing well-known funk and rock rhythms. Instead, they seek to enrich electronic dance music’s fabric by using uncommon rhythms that are often unknown and rarely heard in large parts of Africa. These include ancient Sahel rhythms, like the Ouaraba and Ouenega of the Mossi peoples, as well as new, original grooves. These exotic rhythms can be as strong as house, disco or drumming, and the band invites everyone to join them.
