The Doxas brothers Chet and Jim have shared a love of jazzy music for more than a decade. They are both in their mid-thirties and poised for a huge leap by advancing to the top of the major leagues. They collaborated with Dave Douglas, a star American trumpeter, on Riverside. This led to the release of an album on Douglas’s label. The two of them played together in their youth, first at high school and then in college. They also performed together at McGill University, where they both graduated. Jim is currently an instructor on its music faculty. They formed the trio By-Product in the middle of their studies with Zach Lober, their long-time bassist. The group released their first album under this name in 2002. Chet has produced three more albums since then, the first two on Justin Time and the most recent, Dive on Toronto’s Addo Records. Jim, on his other hand, has kept impeccable time for many groups, including Oliver Jones’ trio from www.scena.org.
