Italy’s answer for Ne Zhdali is the avant-punk band Bz Bz Ueu. This band’s music is a wild ride, combining cut-and-paste quirkiness and the use of trumpet and horns (sax) with tons of toys for children. Only a handful of singles and CD EPs are available. All were released in Italy. Around 1992, the nucleus of Bz Bz Ueu was formed. At that time, Pino Montecalvo, bassist, and Efisio Biancofiore, guitarist, began writing songs together. They were performing in a bar in the area with a drum machine when Carlo Lupori joined them. This opened up more options for stamina. The group was now a quintet, with Edy Leo as trumpeter and Jacopo Andreini as saxophonist. 1995 saw the release of their first CD EP, which was titled “Eponymous”. It featured their unique blend of punk rock, hardcore-jazz, and had a slew of other styles. The album sounds like the Ex meets Uz Jsme Doma or Ne Zhdali, and received positive reviews in the local press. It also attracted the attention American punkers God is My Co-Pilot. Montecalvo established the label Music ‘a La Coque to produce the band’s music. It released two split 7”s with God-Co in 1996 and 1998, and No in 1998. They failed to attract enough international attention to permit them to perform outside of Italy or to land a record contract. In late 2000, Uhozmerigotz was released. It shows a clear shift towards the wild side with toys, animal calls and other miscellaneous objects, but still maintains a high-energy punk sound. Allmusic
