Cacaw

The formation of futurist jazz trio CACAW could be a turning point in the evolutionary timeline of musicologists of tomorrow. The band’s debut CD Stellar Power (2013), which features music that is inspired by robot love, the swallowing one star by another and elements in a state for change, is a record about transition in music and in the universe. CACAW’s sound is a mix of steamrolling sludge and the clear synth sounds of an 1980s Michael Mann soundtrack. It also includes angular complexity, shimmering, ethereal soundscapes, and corrosive sound. CACAW is constantly evolving, taking in ideas and influences from all musical genres. However, the band retains the spontaneity, invention, and experimental attitude of jazz while retaining the spontaneity, creativity, and edge of experimental rock. This can be attributed to both indie rock artists such as Boards of Canada, Thom Yorke, and jazz influences like Andrew Hill. Landon Knoblock, keyboardist/composer, has been living in New York City since 2007. Andrew D’Angelo has played with many artists, including Ron Horton and Ben Allison. He also performed with Michael Blake and Jeff Lederer. Gasoline Rainbow was his last album. It was a duo recording that he did with Jason Furman, a prog rock/metal drummer. His music is multi-hued synthesizer and pointillist solo piano. Bruce Lindsay, All About Jazz, described his music as “unpredictable”, energetic, beautiful and loud, soft and subtle, and surprising.” Oscar Noriega is a member Tim Berne’s Snakeoil, and the collective quartet Endangered Blood. Cuong Vu and Brad Shepik are some of his collaborators. Jeff Davis, drummer, is part of Eivind Opsvikā€™s Overseas and Tone Collector with Opsvik, as well as saxophonist Tony Malaby and Michael Bates’ Outer Sources. In-demand drummer Jeff Davis has recorded or played with many jazz legends including Jon Irabagon and Kris Davis, Gebhard Ullmann and Ralph Alessi. from http://www.landonknoblock.com/cacaw
