Calum Gourlay, the bassist, was born in Glasgow and grew up playing in jazz workshops in Glasgow and in big bands in Scotland, such as Tommy Smith’s Youth Jazz Orchestra. He now lives in London. His quartet Thelonious is a tribute to Monk. He also runs and writes for the monthly Calum Gourlay Big Band gig held at London’s Vortex. From londonjazznews.com
