Capathia Jenkins is a skilled actor, but those who have met her know that she can also act. She is a woman who has two passions, acting and music. But she doesn’t choose one as they are both her soul. Capathia approaches songs the same way as she approaches scripts, being an artist. She seeks the hidden nuances and secrets within the text or notes. She searches for harmony, melody and rhythm. She asks herself, “What am I trying to communicate?” What is it that I want my audience experience with me? She wants to take her audience on an adventure. The actress, who was born in Brooklyn and raised in New York, starred in the Broadway hit Disney musical Newsies as Medda. Her Broadway debut was in The Civil War where she played Harriet Jackson. The Off-Broadway 2000 revivals of Godspell featured her as Harriet Jackson. Her stirring rendition of “Turn Back, O Man” won over audiences. Her performances of Bacharach/David songs was critically acclaimed when she returned to Broadway with The Look of Love. Ms. Jenkins was then cast as ‘The Washing Machine in Caroline, Or Change’ and ‘Frieda Mai’ in Martin Short Fame becomes me, where she sang “Stop the Show” and brought down the house every night. She returned to Off-Broadway in 2007 and starred as (mis) Understanding Mammy-The Hattie McDaniel Story, for which she was nominated by Drama Desk Award. She was also featured in Nora Ephron’s Love, Loss, and What I Wore. She is an active concert artist and has performed with many orchestras, including the Houston Symphony Orchestra, the National Symphony of America, the Pittsburgh Symphony (with Marvin Hamlisch), the National Symphony of America, the Atlanta Symphony, the Seattle Symphony, the Utah Symphony Orchestra, the San Antonio Symphony Orchestra, San Antonio Symphony Orchestra, San Antonio Symphony Orchestra, San Antonio Symphony Orchestra, San Antonio Symphony Orchestra, San Antonio Symphony Orchestra, San Diego Symphony, the Minnesota Orchestra, San Antonio Symphony Orchestra, San Antonio Symphony Orchestra, San Antonio Symphony Orchestra, San Antonio Symphony, the Calgary Philharmonic, the Calgary Symphony, the San Diego Symphony, the San Diego Symphony, the San Diego Symphony, the San Diego Symphony, the San Diego Symphony, the San Diego Symphony, the San San Diego Symphony, the Hong Kong Philharmonic.
