Carl Burnett (drums)

Carl’s smooth, elegant, and swinging drumming has been featured on numerous recordings and live performances. Carl’s drums have supported artists such as Sarah Vaughn and Freddie Hubbard, Eddie Harris, Marvin Gaye, and O.C. Smith and can be heard on the albums of Kenny Burrell and Freddie Hubbard, Art Pepper, Freddie Hubbard, and Eddie Harris, among others. At Los Angeles’ Jefferson High School, Carl was the last student to study with Sam Browne. His students included Chico Hamilton and Dexter Gordon. Carl rose to prominence on the west coast in the 1960s, 1970s and today. Carl and Stanley Gilbert’s musical collaboration began in the Cal Tjader Quintet of the late ’60s and Gene Harris Trio of Freddie Hubbard in the ’70s.
