Carlo Muscat

His style of playing and composition was influenced by Mark Turner and Wayne Shorter, who were both born in Malta in 1988. He has been performing with many established artists from different countries over the years. He created the concept for The Sound Catalogues in 2012, an artistic endeavor that aims to compile a series volumes that catalog events, figures, periods, artistic movements, etc. After his 2013 move to Paris (France), this idea was born. While he continued his studies and pursued a career in jazz, this time was extremely important as it gave him the opportunity to record the first volume of The Sound Catalogues. The album features several established artists including Matyas Szandai and Sandro Zerafa as well as Joe Debono, Daniele Raimondi and Lionel Boccara. The group was formed as a collaboration at the 2012 Malta Jazz Festival, under the artistic direction by guitarist Sandro Zerafa. They performed for the second time in July 2013. Carlo Muscat’s other notable performances include the 2011 Malta Jazz Festival, and a concert at Manoel Theatre. This is one of the most prominent venues on the island. He was awarded a full time scholarship to Berklee College of Music, Boston in 2012. He was a part of one of his most important periods, a long-running series rehearsals and live sessions that he had with Charles Gatt (founder and former artistic director at the Malta Jazz Festival). These sessions gave him a new perspective on music improvisation. They also provided an opportunity to learn lesser-known tunes and reshape his jazz repertoire. Carlo has performed in other projects at various venues in Paris, including guitarist Simon Martineau and trumpeter Daniele Rimondi. He also performed with double-bassist Sava Medan and drummer Clement Brajtman. He is still working on new compositions and forming artistic connections to future volumes. He remains open to finding a contemporary sound that best describes his style. from http://creativemindsets.com
