Carol Morgan

Carol Morgan, originally from Texas but now residing in Manhattan, is a jazz composer, writer, and college professor. Her discography includes the CDs “Classic Morgana” and “Passing Time with The Carol Morgan Quintet”. She is a Juilliard graduate and has worked with many outstanding teachers, including Mark Gould and Ingrid Jensen. Her performances include releases by DIVA Jazz Orchestra and Hawk-Richard Jazz Orchestra. She also appeared on NPR’s “The Engines of Our Ingenuity” and Henry Darragh. Carol has been commissioned as a composer by DiverseWorks and the Michele Brangwen Dance Ensemble. She co-authored the 2008 textbook, ‘The Practical Improviser’. This book has been a well-respected method for studying jazz improvisation. Carol is currently a member the New York-based DIVA Jazz Orchestra. She also leads her own trio that features Harvie S on bass and Richie DeRosa playing drums. Blue Bamboo Music has released the first CD of the trio, “Opening”, on their record label.
