American jazz (Latin) trumpeter. Born July 17, 1962 in The Bronx (New York). Charlie Sepulveda is a Latin Jazz musician who has been a pivotal figure in Latin Jazz music for decades. Charlie graduated from New York City College where he studied under Ron Carter and William Fielder. He grew up in the vibrant New York City music scene during the 1970’s and 80’s when Latin American, Avant-Garde, Jazz, and Afro Caribbean musicians were influencing each other’s music. He was able to record and tour with a wide range of great artists, including Tito Puente and Golden Latin Jazz All Stars, Eddie Palmieri, Tito Puente, Dizzy Gillespie, Wynton Marsalis and the United Nation Orchestra. He is also the music director of Jazz at Lincoln Center in Puerto Rico and the Rockefeller Foundation, as well as a professor at the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico. Charlie Sepulveda, who has 12 recordings to his credit as a band leader and two Grammy nominations, as well as a Billboard Award and two Grammy nominations, is a leading figure in Latin Jazz. His most recent recording, “Mr. Ep,” is a beautiful exercise in Latin Jazz. It features swinging, soloing, ensemble playing and percolating at its best. Charlie Sepulveda has a new recording.
