Christian Wallumrod (1971), acoustic keyboards and composer Christian Wallumrod is a prominent musician and composer of the younger generation of Norwegian musicians. His debut album, “No Birch”, was released by ECM Records in 1996 to great critical acclaim. ECM Records released the album “Sofienberg Varations” in 2003 with a new ensemble, Christian Wallumrod Ensemble: Nils Okland and Arve Henriksen. Wallumrod’s third album, “A Year from Easter”, was released on the German record label in spring 2005. Wallumrods compositions were played on an extended version of his acoustic group (sextet featuring long-time partners Johansen and Henriksen, Tanja Orning on cello, and Gjermund Larsen, on violins), on “The Zoo Is Far” (ECM 2007). The CWE sextet was led by Arve Henriksen, who was replaced in 2008 by Eivind Lonning as the trumpeter. The ensemble recorded and released “Fabula Suite Lugano”, in 2009. It was nominated in the Nordic Musicprice 2010 Awards. The Christian Wallumrod Ensemble has been touring and playing at festivals across Europe, Scandinavia, Europe, and the USA since 2002. ECM will release the “Outstairs” new CWE album in spring 2013. Wallumrod performs and composes with his ensemble. Wallumrod also joins the Dans Les Arbres (DLA) with fellow Norwegians Ingar Zach (percussion / grandcassa) as well as French clarinet player Xavier Charles. The group formed in 2006. They use improvised music and many different acoustic as well as electronic instruments. ECM Records released the first Dans Les Arbres album in spring 2008. The cd “Canopee”, which was released by the same label in 2012, was also released. DLA has performed in Norway, Europe and USA as well as Canada, Russia, Libanon, Japan, Canada, Russia, Libanon and the USA. Wallumrod has enjoyed long-term collaborations with a.o. Wallumrod’s focus has been on smaller and more stable ensembles as both a performer or composer. Wallumrod has given solo performances regularly and has been involved in various ad-hoc constellations that move in different musical directions with artists like Susanne Sundfor or Nils Petter Molvaer.
