Christian Weidner was a Kassel native in 1976. He has been living in Berlin since 1999 after studying saxophone in the universities of music in Berlin, Stockholm, and Hamburg. He was a member of Gunter Hampels’ bands, and Albert Mangelsdorff’s German-French Jazzensemble in his early years. Along with John Schroder and Frank Gratkowski as well as Hayden Chisholm and Jim Black, Kathrin Perchlof, Robert Landfermann and Eric Schafer, Kalle Kalima (Ronny Graupe), Christian Lillinger a.m.o., he is part of many pioneering formations. He has been a member of the “Der Rote Bereich”, a band he formed with Frank Mobus, Oli Steidle and others since 2011. He made his debut on pirouetrecords as a bandleader in 2004 with “CHORAL”, then followed by “THE INWARDSONG” (2010), “DREAM BOOGIE”, (2012), and “CHORAL” (2011) with his new quartet, which includes Achim Kaufmann and Henning Sieverts. from www.christianweidner.de
