Cindy Scott

Cindy Scott is a passionate and risk-taking singer who doesn’t mind expressing her emotions in song. Cindy Scott has taken a different route than the typical jazz singer. She was raised in a home full of musicians and music, and she chose flute to be her first instrument. Cindy was unsure about the life of a professional musician, but she knew she wanted to travel and so she obtained an MBA. She also learned German and Spanish and lived and worked abroad for several years. One of these stints was spent in Germany, where she learned jazz and began to sing with local musicians. Cindy found herself in Houston, climbing the corporate ladder and performing jazz clubs at night. She gave up a successful career in business to pursue a life of music. She moved to New Orleans shortly before Hurricane Katrina struck. She returned to New Orleans to complete her Masters of Music (Jazz Studies), a program that was founded by Ellis Marsalis, and is now directed by Steve Masakowski, guitarist extraordinaire. She has remained firmly rooted in New Orleans’ rich and varied music scene. Cindy found a happy balance between her straight-ahead roots, and the New Orleans musical gumbo. She sings the music that she loves, including jazz standards and other genres. Her last CD, “Let the Devil Take Tomorrow”, was nominated New Orleans’ Best Contemporary Jazz Recording. This is a great honor considering the field also included projects by Donald Harrison and Christian Scott. Offbeat Magazine listed the recording as one of the top 40 Louisiana recordings in all genres. Cindy’s latest studio recording, Historia, was released in March 2014. Her incredible band includes Dan Loomis as bassist, Randy Porter as pianist, Jamison Ross as drummer, Jamison Ross on guitar, Evan Christopher and Shannon Powell on tambourine. Karrin Allyson, a four-time GRAMMY nominee for jazz vocals, makes an appearance on two tracks. This recording is a mix of jazz standards and Cindy’s original songs. It pays tribute to her musical roots, her lessons from her family and the discoveries she made throughout her life. C. Michael Bailey (All About Jazz), who reviewed Scott’s CD, said that Scott’s new album is “all that jazz” and “all that it is.” PERFORMANCES Cindy Scott shared the stage with Mark Murphy and Roseanna Vitro, Karrin Alyson, Roseanna Viro, Randy Porter and Badal Roy.
