Clay Giberson

Clay Giberson, pianist and composer, is an innovative voice in the Pacific Northwest’s contemporary jazz scene. The music is both emotionally compelling and dazzling with harmony, lyricism, rhythmic intricacy, and melody. Giberson’s performances show a deep appreciation for structure and form, but also pay tribute to the rhythm and sonic landscapes that underpin his musical ideas. Clay’s musical talent is due to his childhood on a farm in Woodland Washington. Clay grew up on a farm in Woodland, Washington, where his mother was a classical pianist teacher. He earned his Master’s in music technology at New York University. After studying jazz piano at Miami, he established himself in New York. He has performed all over Europe, Scandinavian, South Pacific, Caribbean, Japan, and the Mediterranean. Clay currently lives in Portland, Oregon, where he performs, records, produces, and teaches. Clay has recorded four recordings with Origin Records, as well as seven other recordings with his Portland-based bands Upper Left Trio or Go By Train. Duo Chronicles is Clay’s collaboration with John Nastos the saxophonist. This time-based project sees musicians record, compose and distribute a video performance each week for one year. Clay has also worked with latin, jazz, and pop artists like Mel Brown, Stephanie Schneiderman and McKinley. Visit www.claygiberson.com
