The Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra was formed in 1985 by Jeff Hamilton, John Clayton, and Jeff Clayton. The big band, which included a stellar lineup of Los Angeles-based musicians received a warm response from fans and reviewers. CD Review named Groove Shop (Capri) as the 1990’s best recording. It was also nominated for a Grammy Award. His dynamic drumming in Heart and Soul (Capri) received rave reviews. David Badham, Jazz Journal International’s reviewer, stated that “This is one the best modern big band issues I have ever heard… This is undoubtedly Jeff Hamilton, a highly skilled and driven drummer.
