Colin was born and raised in Rochester, NY. He learned his skills from the beginning by himself. Colin began his formal training in his teens by studying privately with Steve Green, a well-respected instructor. He then went on to study conservatory at the Eastman School of Music, which is widely recognized. He studied with Bob Sneider, and was named the Fred V. Alati Jazz Scholar. After being selected by Berklee College of Music for the “World Scholarship Tour”, Cannon moved to Boson, MA at the age of 18. Cannon studied composition and guitar with legendary instructors Tim Miller and Mick Goodrick (teachers of Pat Methany and John Scofield), and many other subjects at Berklee. Colin moved to New York City after graduating from Berklee. He began performing at some of the most iconic venues in New York City, such as The Blue Note Jazz Club and The 55 Bar. Colin has also been a frequent performer at the Rochester International Jazz Festival to sell out audiences. Colin has worked extensively with Manami Mrita (piano), Zak Crxall (bass), Thomas Hartman and Devin Collins (drums). They recorded and released their critically acclaimed albums In Summary in 2009 and Glenville in 2012. He also released Intermission (Farewell), his most ambitious work to date in 2016. Cannon is an acclaimed private composition, theory, and guitar instructor in New York City. He is based on the east coast and continues to compose, record, and perform regularly.
