Collin Walcott

Collin Walcott, February 24, 1945 – November 8, 1984 was an American musician. He was a pupil of Ravi Shankar, Vasant Rai. Collin expanded western music’s use of the sitar. Walcott studied music and ethnomusicology both at Indiana University in Bloomington and The University of California, Los Angeles. Although he is best known for his sitar and tabla playing, Collin Walcott also played many instruments including trap drums and clarinet. He also made his own kalimba from a gas can. He was also a member the Paul Winter Consort, the group Oregon (with Ralph Towner and Paul McCandless) and Codona with Nana Vasconcelos and Don Cherry.
