Count Basic is an Austrian band that began as a project by Peter Legat, a talented musician who taught at the Vienna Jazz Conservatory. The band was a target group for smooth jazz and became a huge success with “All Time High”, which appeared on 1010 City Beat Vol. 2, a compilation album. The song was a radio hit and featured Lynne Kieran. Kelli Sae, a singer from Japan, became Legat’s regular musical collaborator shortly thereafter. The group’s debut album, ‘M.L.’ was a disappointment. In The Sunshine reached number one on the NAC/Smooth jazz charts. Life Think It Over, which followed, was also a huge success. Movin’ in The Right Direction was a success and reached number 3 on the Smooth Jazz/New Adult Contemporary charts. Other musicians have been added and removed from the group over the years. These include Dieter Kolbeck (keyboards), Dirk Eichinger(drums), Dirk Eichinger (“drums”), Laurinho Bandeira [percussion], Christian Radovan [trombone], Martin Fuss (tenor Saxophone), and Karl Bumi Fian (“trumpet”). The group has performed in many European countries and has been on tour.
