Cyril James Touff, born March 4, 1927 in Chicago, and died January 24, 2003 in Evanston, Illinois. He was a jazz trumpeter. He is one of few jazz musicians who was a professional bass trumpeter. He was also associated to West coast jazz, even though he lived most of his adult life in Chicago. At age 6, he began playing piano. He then moved on to saxophone and xylophone, before finally settling on trumpet. He was a soldier in the United States Army, where he played trombone. He switched to bass trumpet after the war and worked alongside Woody Herman, Sandy Mosse and others. Mosse and he co-led the octet Pieces of Eight from the 1950s to the 2000s. From Wikipedia
