Between 2008 and 2012, Daniel Casimir was a student at the Birmingham Conservatoire Jazz Course. He began to study double bass under Arnie Somogyi and Mark Hodgson. Daniel also had the opportunity to be taught by Dave Holland, the legendary bassist, and participated in several projects with Chris Potter, the saxophonist. Jon Turney described Daniel’s performance as “Outstanding”: “But, Dan Casimir on the bass was outstanding for me. He was a great bass player, playing well with the orchestra and responding to soloists. He also performed with Potter in one of his last performances. Daniel left Birmingham in 2012. Daniel completed a Masters degree at Trinity Laban Conservatoire to hone his abilities as an improviser, composer and was supported by scholarships from Help Musicians and the Savile Club. He was a participant in Trinity Laban Conservatoire’s public Conservatoire events, such as a performance in Ronnie’s Scott or at the Southbank Centre during the London Jazz festival. Daniel has performed with the following musicians since completing the formal part of his musical training: Jason Rebello (Julian Joseph), Lonnie Smith (Lonnie Liston Smith), Nathan Facey, Shane Forbes and Chihiro Yamanaka. Daniel performs frequently and has recorded with the Clark Tracey Quartet (Meantime and Jubilation), Tom Harrison, Jasmine Power (Stories and Rhymes), and Camilla George. In 2017, Daniel will record with Jean Toussaint, an Art Blakey Jazz messenger Saxophonist. Daniel was awarded The Musicians’ Company’s Young Jazz Musician Award 2016. His first album as a bandleader was Escapee, which Daniel released in 2017. Escapee was released by Jazz Refreshed.
