Danielle Nicole is a founding member, bass player, and lead singer of Trampled Under Foot in Kansas City. In 2015, Nicole released her debut album “Wolf Den.” She will be back with a follow up release through Concord Records in 2018. “I grew-up playing the blues and that is still a major part of my work. However, I am now trying new things and reaching out to more people. Although it sounds just like me, I am trying new things and reaching out more than ever before. Nicole’s unique and inventive bass work, which led to her being the first woman to receive the Blues Foundation’s 2014 Blues Music Award, Best Instrumentalist, Bass, was the result of many years of hard work. She had never played the bass before she joined Trampled Underfoot’s band, but she cannot imagine her life without it. She continues, “When I began doing my solo thing, someone asked me if it was possible to hire a bass player.” Of course not! Although I initially picked up the bass to keep Trampled Under Foot family-oriented, I fell in love with it. It was a challenging task, and it is still. It’s a great experience to be part of the rhythm and sing along. Although I knew some things about acoustic guitar, I didn’t feel the same connection to it as I do with the bass. It’s quite empowering to walk onto a stage with grown men who can play their arses off and feel empowered. Rounding out her band are longtime Danielle Nicole Band guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Brandon Miller, and her older brother Kris Schenebelen [Trampled Under Foot] on drums. She states, “I believe it’s a great time for what I’m doing.” “I’ve noticed that blues is becoming more popular among younger people over the years I have been playing at blues festivals. People want to hear original music again. from www.daniellenicolekc.com
