Darryl Harper started playing clarinet professionally at age sixteen in Philadelphia, his hometown. He has performed in numerous venues around the globe for more than twenty years and has recorded many albums on the Hipnotic Records record. He has opened for Max Roach, The Billy Taylor Trio and The Wynton Marsalis Quintet; performed with Freddie Bryant and Orrin Evans; played dates with Dee Dee Bridgewater and Carla Cook; also performed with Dave Holland, Dave Holland, Dave Holland and Uri Caine. He is currently an instructor at Virginia Commonwealth University and holds music degrees from Amherst College and Rutgers University. Harper is a leader in The Onus Quintet and The Onus Trio.
