Dave Anderson (saxophone)

Dave Anderson is a composer and saxophonist who has a major contribution to jazz music. Anderson is proficient on all members of the saxophone group and has performed with many notable musicians such as Gene Bertoncini (Clark Terry), Jim McNeely (Clark Wilson), Matt Wilson, Craig Taborn and Nick Brignola. Anderson is a jazz musician who plays in a modern style. He has been praised by jazz legends Ray Brown and Rufus Reid. Anderson is focusing more on original music composition for projects like The Dave Anderson Quartet and the James Baumgart/Dave Anderson duo. Anderson’s debut album, “Clarity”, was recorded as a leader by Pony Boy Records. It features eight original songs and documents his development of the quartet. They were formed in January 2008 after a one-nighter at Egan’s Ballard Jamhouse in Seattle. Anderson started playing the horn in Cloquet, his hometown, at the age of eleven. He was the altoist in Cloquet’s school band. Anderson was initially inspired by the jazz recordings of his brother and started writing original music in high school. Anderson was the Head of the Lakes Jazz Festival’s outstanding high school soloist and the Eau Claire Jazz Festival’s outstanding college soloist. After graduating from the University of Minnesota he was awarded a full fellowship to perform in the Aspen Music Festival. Dave worked for ten years in New York City’s music scene. He also spent two years under the legendary producer Creed Taylor. Dave moved to Seattle in 2005 and has since performed with the Jay Thomas Big Band and Emerald City Jazz Orchestra, as well as his own projects. From allaboutjazz
