Dave O’Higgins, a saxophonist and composer, arranger, educator, and later, recording engineer and producer, is Dave O’Higgins. With 19 albums under his belt as a leader, he has been a prominent figure in the UK and international jazz scene over 30 years. Dave’s soprano and tenor sax sounds, which are easily recognisable and personal, have a clear sense melodic development and adventure. He is a popular performer, and has an excellent sense for pacing and presentation. His influences include Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon and John Coltrane, Joe Henderson, Stanley Turrentine, and Michael Brecker. He is passionate about artistic and sonic exploration and loves the constant learning. Since 2005, the Dave O’Higgins Quartet is made up of Sebastiaan De Krom (drums), Geoff Gascoyne and Graham Harvey (piano). This band has a reputation for being unashamedly jazzy and drawing on blues. They also use functional harmonies and the vast tome that is jazz vocabulary. With the support of PRS Foundation and Arts Council of England awards, the Dave O’Higgins Quartet will be on a 33-date tour of Britain to promote the new CD It’s Always 9:15 in Zog.
