Dave Scott, a trumpet player who has won numerous awards and has had the privilege of working with some of the most renowned jazz musicians in the world, is an excellent example of professional experience. Dave currently resides in New York and composes and performs with his own jazz quintet. He also has a new project that includes guitar, piano, and drums. His compositions are the only ones that he has used in the New York jazz scene. These groups include some of New York’s most talented jazz musicians such as Rich Perry, Gary Versace and Jeff Williams, John Hebert. Ben Monder, Ted Poor, Ted Poor, Ted Poor, Ted Poor, John Hebert, John Hebert, John Williams, John Hebert, Ben Monder, Ben Monder, and John Hebert. Both specific forms are represented by the compositions, which have dense harmonic structures but also allow for free improvisation. Both ensembles are focused on using the complex and engaging compositions as instruments for improvisation. Each musician can express himself fully through the pieces, which develop organically and interactively. In 2004, the quintet released “SONG for Amy” on SteepleChase. In February 2007, SteepleChase released “SONG FOR AMY” on their label. The first disc was critically acclaimed in JazzTimes 2005, and in Jazz Review 2007. Both publications praised Dave’s originality. The third disc, “NONCHALANT”, was released in spring 2009 and won honorable mention in All About Jazz New York for recording of the Year. Dave is also a member of a quartet that Tony Malaby, tenor saxophonist, leads. The Nine Winds label has released a CD featuring the group. This CD also features many of Dave’s original pieces. The ensembles all perform regularly in New York City and at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art concert series. Dave is also a talented pianist, and has performed as a piano soloist for two Kim Richmond/Clay Jenkins Ensemble releases, “RANGE” (with Clay Jenkins Ensemble) and “LOOK AT TIME”. He was also featured on Kim Richmond’s big-band CD, “PASSAGES”, as a trumpet soloist. He is also a featured soloist in the Jim Widner Band and has toured and recorded. Dave is a soloist and clinician who has appeared at many jazz festivals across the United States, including the University of Illinois and the University of Missouri. He also performed at the University of Texas at Austin, Arizona State University and the University of Oregon. He was a featured performer at the Newport Jazz Festival, with Gerry Mulligan, and at the Monterey Jazz Festival, with Harvey Wainapel’s Quintet. He also performed recently with the Tom Harrell Big Band, Los Angeles, and New York. Dave is currently a member of the Western Connecticut State University jazz faculty and previously at the University of Southern California. He directs the jazz ensemble and coaches small ensembles, and teaches jazz improvisation to majors.
