Dick Sudhalter

Dick Sudhalter is a rare dual-career jazz journalist and superior trad-oriented cornetist. His greatest achievement in his later career was co-authorship with Philip Evans and William Dean-Myatt of the excellent Bix Beiderbecke biography Bix, Man and Legend. Sudhalter is a skilled improviser. Sudhalter was born in Boston, and he played in England during the 1960s (organizing The New Paul Whiteman Orchestra). Sudhalter returned to the U.S. in the 1960s and has been a freelancer on the classic jazz scene. He played with the New York Jazz Repertory Company, the Classic Jazz Quartet and has recorded for many labels, including Audiophile, Challenge, and other labels. Allmusic
