Diplomats Of Solid Sound

The Diplomats of Solid Sound, a funk/soul group from Iowa City (IA), performs with a modern garage rock twist. Since 2001’s release of “Bullfrog Boogaloo”, their first 7-inch single, The Diplomats of Solid Sound have been exploring America’s rich soul music resources to create their own sound — a simple but smoky groove influenced equally by The Funk Brothers, James Brown, and Booker T. Three full-length albums were released as an instrumental group: “Instrumental Action Soul” (2001), on Prescription Records; and both “Let’s Cool One” (2003) and “Destination Go Down!” The Diplomats release a brand new album, “The Diplomats Of Solid Sound feat.” (2005) on the mighty Estrus Records. The Diplomettes (2008) are out on Record Kicks / Pravda, and were produced by Lack Of Afro of Freestyle Records. As they listened to 60s soul and R, The Diplomats Of Solid Sound grew in sophistication as each release came out.
