Domenico Sciajno

Domenico Sciajno was born in Torino and is now based in Palermo, Italy. He studied Double bass at the Royal Conservatory of Den Haag, Holland. Sciajno has been an active experimentalist in the field of digital music and arts for many years. Combining his passion for improvisation with an academic education, Sciajno’s research led him to explore the creative possibilities of interaction between acoustic and indeterminacy factors. These indeterminacy factors can be processed by computers or electronic devices. His wide experience allows him to be very close to performance. He uses electronics and texts in combination with choreography and projections of his own visuals. His performances and audiovisual compositions bring together visual and sonic material in a unique and personal way. Sciajno’s language combines field recording with computer-generated processes in synergetic relationships. This opens the door to an imaginary world in which complexity and simplicity coexist and are combined in a fascinating and abstract symbiosis. From 1992 he has been present as interpreter, improviser and composer in major international music and media arts festivals like, among others, Ars Electronica (Linz), Transmediale (Berlin), Donaueshingen Miziktagen (Germany), Musique Action (Nancy), Experimental Intermedia (New York), Electrofringe (Newcastle-Australia), Gaudeamus Music (Amsterdam), CalArts Festival (Los Angeles).
