Dominik Wania

Dominik Wania was a Polish citizen who was born in Sanok. He began studying piano when he was three years old. In 2005, he graduated from the Academy of Music Krakow, Poland as an honors student in classical piano performance. He was awarded the Helena Foundation Presidential Scholarship by New England Conservatory of Music, Boston in 2006. While pursuing a Master of Music degree as a Jazz Performance specialist, he received The Helena Foundation Presidential Scholarship. Dominik Wania studied at NEC with Jerry Bergonzi and George Garzone, Allan Chase, Ran Blake, Allan Chase, and Frank Carlberg. He was also a member one of NEC’s prestigious Honors Ensembles. He has collaborated and performed with many well-known musicians, including Tomasz Stanko (Marcus Miller), Dave Liebman, Lee Konitz. Lee Konitz, Anders Jormin. Gary Thomas, Gary Thomas. Marilyn Mazur. Joey Baron. Janusz Muniak. Bronislaw Suchanek. Zbigniew Wegehaupt. Piotr Baron. Piotr Wojtasik. Maciej Sikala. He is currently involved in significant projects such as Maciej Obara International Quartet and Noise Trio. He is also a DMA faculty member of the Academy of Music Krakow and Institute of Jazz Katowice. He released Ravel, his debut album as a piano trio. It was arranged by Maurice Ravel for jazz trio. He was awarded the TVP Kultura’s Gwarancje Kultury award in April 2014. He was also awarded two Fryderyk Awards that year in the Jazz Album and Debut of Year categories. Lonely Shadows, Dominik Wania’s second album, was not available for seven years. The pianist was active in many projects during this period, including Maciej Obara’s Quartet, which he performed at some the most important jazz festivals around the globe. Six albums were recorded by them together, two of which were released jointly by ECM Records in Germany. Dominik Wania joined the elite group of artists under Manfred Eicher’s wing in 2020. ECM Records released his first solo album. Lonely Shadows was recorded in two days in Lugano (Switzerland).
