The Dopolarians are a group of avant-garde jazz musicians who include some of the greatest names in the field. The entire group, with the exception of William Parker, hails from different parts of the southern United States. The 2018 group was formed mainly by the friendship between Alvin Fielder and Chris Parker, a pianist. Garden Party’s improvised music is easy to understand, even hummable. It also has a strong connection to the group’s southern roots. According to Jazz Times magazine’s review, the group “executes a perfect balance between euphoricimprovisation, bluesy mettle and melodic composition that is as infectious as it is energetic.” Alvin Fielder, who was the original session that gave rise to the group, fell ill shortly after the first session and died.
