Dusan Bogdanovic is a gifted guitarist, composer, and improviser. His unique style combines classical, jazz, and ethnic music. Bogdanovic has toured extensively in Europe, Asia, and the United States as a soloist or with other artists. His recording and performing activities include collaborations with jazz groups, including The Falla Guitar Trio, Charlie Haden and Miroslav Tadic. Over fifty of his compositions have been published. They range from solo guitar works to chamber and orchestral pieces (Berben and GSP, Doberman Yppan, et al. ), and close to 20 recordings ranging from Bach Trio Sonatas, to contemporary works (Intuition GSP, Doberman Yppan, M.A. Recordings et al.). His most recent commissions include a ballet- poeme Crow that was premiered by Pacific Dance Company at Los Angeles Theater Center; Sevdalinka for the Newman- Oltman Guitar Duo and the Turtle Island Quartet; Canticles, which was composed for the Gruber- Maklar Duo; Games, which was commissioned by BluePrint Festival and dedicated in part to David Tanenbaum and Nicole Paiement. Also, Games and Variations were premiered by James Smith and the Armadillo String Quartet. Bogdanovic was born in Yugoslavia, 1955. His studies in composition and orchestration were completed at the Geneva Conservatory by A. Ginastera, P. Wissmer, and M.L.Sao Marcos. He also studied guitar performance with M.L.Sao Marcos. He was awarded the Geneva Competition’s only First Prize in 1977. His Carnegie Hall debut recital was highly acclaimed. He is currently employed by the Geneva Conservatory, having previously taught at the Belgrade Academy (1990-2007). Berben Editions publishes his theoretical work on guitar.
