Ed Partyka is a trombonist/tubist and composer/arranger. He also conducts. He is originally from Chicago Illinois and received his BA degree at Northern Illinois University. He then moved to Germany in 1990. He earned a Masters in jazz trombone performance from the Conservatory of Music, Cologne. He was also a member of G.E.M.A. Bob Brookmeyer, Jazz Composers Workshop. He received the 2000 A.S.C.A.P. / I.A.J.E. Commission Honoring the Centenary Louis Armstrong” He was the 1st Prize-Winner of 1998 NDR Musikpreis (Hamburg), the 1st Prize Winner of Jazz Composers Association 1998 Julius Hemphill Composition Awards, Boston, and a finalist in 1996 HR Emerging Composers Competition, Frankfurt. Ed has recorded and toured with the Bob Brookmeyer New Art Orchestra (Hamburg), Carla Bley Jazz Orchestra, Vienna Art Orchestra. He was also a finalist in the 1996 HR Emerging Composers Competition (Frankfurt).
